GREAT MEDIA COVERAGE ON SIR MICHAEL'S LAST EVENTS

Image
As the casket of the late Great Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare was laid to rest and the 'Last Post' echoed on televisions around Papua New Guinea, on social media platforms (LIVE stream) like Facebook, it showed the media especially the television networks coming together in the last two weeks to give everyone who would have attended but could not attend events leading up to Sir Michael's burial, a front row seat to the events. Led by the National Broadcasting Corporation Television (NBCTV) which Sir Michael as Prime Minister, gifted to the people of PNG back in 2008 (formerly Kundu2 TV), who teamed up with the longest serving television station EMTV and the newest, TV Wan owned by Digicel Company. I don't know how they all reached an agreement but what I know is they did a darn good job with the LIVE coverage. VALE Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare

Image
Friday February 26, 2021 Friday February 26, 2021 will forever be remembered in Papua New Guinea's history as the country woke up to the sad news of the passing of the 'Father of a Nation' , Grand Chief Right Honorable Sir Michael Thomas Somare. As we all were coming to grips with a huge hole in PNG's short history, many of us contemplated of what PNG would become now that the man that led us to where we are, has died at the age of 84 in Port Moresby from pancreatic cancer. A Nation was now in mourning as word reached the most remote parts of a country built on 800 plus languages scatted on terrain which was at most times impossible to access. But Sir Michael did conquer all that was impossible and pushed hard from the Australian's to gain independence for PNG on September 16, 1975. Many people will write and share how Sir Michael lived his life and the great man he was in his village, district, province, PNG, Pacific and the rest of the world. He was an icon in his

The fuel pump attendant

Image
If you have a car or drive one for that matter, you'd probably seen one, complained to one or even gave a tip to one. They work in shifts and one might say it's an old boring job manning the pump but its a gig that is vital for the transport system in any country. Well to be honest it looks and sounds like its a boring gig. I mean look you wait around a vehicle comes and you serve them right? I find and look at all forms of jobs as adventures regardless of how clean or dirty or how high or low it seats in the employment scale. The fuel service station pump attendant is a job where I would want to try do for a a day if given the chance. I see it as an exciting service delivery mechanism where you meet different people everyday and your regulars as well. It's all calculated efforts, it's maths, it's socialism, it's customer service and it's working a few machines. In Lae alone there is about seven fuel stations and a few along the highway too and you a

Life lessons from a Wiseman: in memory of my Father.

Image
It's been two years (2016 - 2018) since I lost my dad. I miss him a lot and just want to hear his assertive and assuring voice again. March 26 will always be close to my heart and remembered because dad passed away a day before my birthday on the 27 March. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Now my dad wanted us to celebrate his life more then anything. He was a very influential man in the church, community, village and work place. We all try to emulate such a role model but admit once in a while that the standard dad set is so high. In this write up I want to share some of my dads life lessons. Some may relate to you and your family members while other lessons might be new to you. Regardless of what they are, I want to share with you and hope you share with others too. Dads Bio Name : Kilamu Kellie Gwae Gwacleyam Thom AKA : Wiseman , Gwae or Kilamu Profession : Engineer & Human Resource Born: 05 March 1963 Died: 26 March 2016 REST IN PEACE DADDY Think be

Narxson Music: Meri Nakanai and how it all started

Image
It all started with Meri Nakanai a song that captivated listeners around Papua New Guinea and after countless hits like Mangi Morobe, Make up your mind, Mi Saveh, Get You and others. I go back to 2016 to get a sense of how Paul Kelly Narko aka Narxson hit the airwaves. I go way back with Narxson and he was my junior at Malala Catholic Secondary School in Madang. We both always loved Eminem and rap music in general and while playing a game of Basketball, music would always be playing in the background in the Norsa Hall in Malala. I'm still mentoring in a way and advising Narxson and seeing him prosper and push the boundary on how he produces music only makes me proud. An interview with Narxson back in 2016 I promised to get you an interview with Narxson and chat about Meri Nakanai and the Pro Ed Studios right? Well I did get the interview and first and foremost  I acknowledge Narxson and Grainger Runialo (Gee Run) for the time and most importantly great music! Meri Nakanai

Dream It - Do what you love and Love what you do

Image
Nothing wrong in Dreaming Big We all have dreamt of becoming someone when we were growing up. A Doctor was a pretty common choice as well as a Carpenter, Teacher, Police Officer, Soldier, Firefighter, Nurse or a super star in sports or acting. I wanted to be a pilot and I told my best female friend Lydia Gagau that I would become the youngest pilot in PNG. Well that didn't happen maybe because I didn't like Mathematics, but it was not wrong for me to dream big. I was never interested in Mathematics and most people who know me would agree that I loved English or Language and Literature. But I wanted to be a pilot! Things would have been different if I paid more attention in Maths classes. But no regrets at all in my choices. " Nelo's Corner " - My first publication My passion growing up was writing, I loved it. I never liked reading but I was into writing and when I did start writing at a young age, the dream of being a pilot slowly faded away. However, back th

Southern Highlands: Special place in my heart

Image
Southern Highlands is a mystical place full of beauty and rich in resources. Southern Highlands to me as it was in the past includes the recently established Hela Province.  This is my story on how people from Southern Highlands and Hela (Both South's to me) have a special place in my heart and my life.  My connections or that of my family dates back to 1960s when my grandfather (my mum's father) and his family lived in Mendi government station. The stories from my mum who was pretty young about 4-5 years old are sketchy at best but they were wonderful stories. She spoke of waking up in the morning and having to wash in crystal clear waters from a near by river in very cold temperatures. Mum learnt the language (Ialibu) and said she use to speak abit of it too. My South's connections and that of my family While growing up in the sweet sugar town Gusap (Ramu), I remember one of our first "Haus Boi" was from Tari his name was Wanu. Mum and dad didn't trust anyo

A true Knight of PNG

Image
He is known to most journalists in Lae and PNG as Chief. He is probably the best investigative journalists to ever come out of PNG. Infact he is the only Investigative Journalist I know. Yes I said it and finally he gets a story run on his tireless efforts to curb up corruption and give justice to local PNGeans and also on shining a bright light to those who are doing it tough. Scott Waide you will always be a champion. One that deserves Knighthood for sure. A great story by ABC's PNG Corrslespondent Eric Tlozek. One man's mission to shine a light on the triumphs of ordinary Papua New Guineans BY ABC PNG Correspondent  ERIC TLOZEK PHOTO:  Scott Waide has made it his mission to highlight how hard work and a positive attitude can transform ordinary Papua New Guineans into leaders. A journalist in Papua New Guinea has found there's a hunger for stories about locals who have overcome the difficulties of life in their developing country. Papua New Guineans are used to nega
